Your latest poll questing "North American retailers’ near-term POS systems upgrades will prioritize?" is missing what I beleive will be the biggest upgrade by far: Security.

So many POS applications have very little or no security built in and if you combine this with Internet access to these systems, be it intentional or accidental, it's just a matter of time before a new wave of headlines start appearing. The card associations are trying their best to plug these security holes, but POS vendors, and POS upgrades are the key to solving this issue.
