Total gift card sales in 2008 to decrease by 9 percent year-on-year

Total gift card sales in 2008 in the US are to decrease by nearly 9 percent year-on-year mainly due to the downturn in the US economy, a report reveals. The decrease is to be caused by a 14 percent drop in the sales of merchant-sponsored gift cards. However, sales of bank-branded gift cards are expected to increase 5.6 percent.
