Unlike the weather, which, traditionally "everybody talks about and nobody ever does anything about," identity theft is the subject of a lot of talk and  increasingly  a lot of action. Developed amidst all that talk and action, the goal of this paper is to compile  clearly, concisely and in one place  the most recent information available on the prevalence of identity theft (ID theft) and efforts to curtail it. This white paper by no means intends to provide an in-depth analysis of the ID theft phenomenon. It does, however, bring together information gathered from a number of different sources in the public and private sectors.
