Online banking fraud spurs in Japan PDF Print E-mail
Between April and December 2007, Japan registered 191 cases of illegal cash withdrawals from online bank accounts by means of stolen identification codes. This is almost a two-fold increase in comparison with the 100 cases reported for the fiscal year 2006. The surge apparently suggests a growing tendency among Japanese customers to access internet banking services.

Within the same April-December period, less cases of money losses due to counterfeit cash cards were reported, 550 versus 633 registered during the fiscal year 2006. The cases of money losses caused by stolen cash cards reached 3,812, down from 6,863 in 2006.Data was provided by the Financial Services Agency.
