20 % of Maybank cash users to use debit cards PDF Print E-mail

Malaysia's bank Maybank expects 20 percent of cash users to deploy its debit cards in the near future. Almost 80 percent of total transactions involves cash and 20 percent turn to credit cards.

Maybank numbers 5.6 million debit cardholders and over 500,000 cards are employed for debits payments at utility payment counters, food and beverage outlets, entertainment centres and retail outlets.

Between December 2007 and February 2008, payment by means of the Maybankard debit card rose to EUR 1.14 million, from the EUR 240,000 registered in the previous corresponding period. Transaction value grew by 75 percent growth, in comparison with the value registered in the September-November 2007 period.
