Dubai First launches contactless MasterCard credit cards with 4% cash back PDF Print E-mail

Dubai First, consumer finance company of the Dubai Group, has introduced a MasterCard with PayPas contactless payment feature that provides 4 percent cash back to cardholders for every purchase made in Dubai and abroad.

Dubai First’s cash back offering will be a permanent future of its credit card program. Before this launch, American Express has begun offering credit cards with 5 percent cash back for the first free months, more than market leader Capital One’s offering of 4 percent which is also offered for a period of three months.

The contactless feature comes on both Classic and Gold MasterCard credit cards. Cardholders are allowed to pay using the contactless feature when making purchases AED 100 (slightly over USD 27) at shops in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

There are over 20 million PayPass cards and devices being accepted in over 80,000 merchant outlets worldwide, according to UAE country manager of MasterCard Worldwide Eyad Al Kourdi. The Classic and Gold MasterCard credit cards are the thirds and fourth products launched by Dubai First.

Cash back cards account for 10 percent of the cards on the UAE market, while the average interest rate on purchase through credit cards has been 0.72 percent, according to a report by Reuters
