Pulse advises consumers on debit cards use, fraud and privacy protection PDF Print E-mail
The Pulse debit network has launched its annual ATM & Debit Card Safety Awareness Month, providing consumers with practice safety tips related to their ATM/debit cards.

Pulse recommends consumers no to reply to unsolicited e-mails, pop-up messages or phone calls asking for personal or financial information. Cardholders who have provided such information in response to fraudulent request are advised to notify their account provider immediately. Also, Pulse urges cardholders to regularly verify all transactions by reviewing checking, savings and other financial account statements, as well as review disclosures from the financial institution to understand what liabilities and responsibilities debit cardholders have. During the next three weeks, Pulse will release additional debit card security tips on protecting PIN and debit card information during in-store, online or phone transactions, as well as advice on guarding against identity theft and fraud.

According to the Pulse-commissioned 2008 Debit Issuer Study, published in April, debit transactions grew by more than 14 percent in 2007.
