Canadian police bust debit card fraud ring in Montreal PDF Print E-mail

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has arrested 8 people in connection with a high-tech debit card fraud, from which five were charged with fraud. Criminals obtained card readers from stores and restaurants that did not secure them to a counter and replaced them with fake ones overnight.

Then, they recorded the account numbers and PINs of customers. CAD 1 million was stolen by cloning the cards of about 1,000 clients in 15 stores and restaurants in the greater Montreal area and in Quebec City. Police expects other stores in Quebec and outside the province to face similar security threats.
