The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) has introduced a mobile banking service in Vietnam. The launch targets customers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and follows the State Bank of Vietnam's initiative to grant ANZ a full local banking license. ANZ previously operated in Vietnam with a foreign branch license and has deployed an ATM network and online banking service. The bank has recently announced plans to open at least four new outlets in the Southeast Asian country by the end of 2008. In 2007, mobile phone penetration in Vietnam represented 18.5 percent of the 85.2 million population, a study conducted by research firm Research and Markets indicates. According to the same study, 800,000 new mobile users are added each month. |
