Data monitoring company HitWise published its tenth quarterly edition of the IMRG-HitWise Hot Shops list, which ranks Britain’s top 50 online goods and services retailers (also known as e-retailers or e-tailers).

First place is preserved by online bookstore Amazon, followed by general merchandise retailer Argos, online electronic products store Play.com, supermarket chain Tesco and clothing retailer Next, which was the list’s top climber. Amazon registered most site hits in an interval spanning from May to July 2008. Overall, 23 of the top 50 tracked online retailers dropped further down the list and 17 managed to increase their number of visitors. Electronics manufacturer Apple registered the sharpest drop and fell 17 places to number 19.
